Billy Graham’s Daily Devotion

By Mark Denison

Psalm 84:2 “My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”

Loneliness is one of the greatest problems people face today. It is a leading cause of suicide – that is now the third greatest killer of students in the United States. People feel various kinds of loneliness. One of the most common is the loneliness of solitude. Or there is the loneliness of suffering. Many people experience loneliness in society, or there is the loneliness of sorrow, guilt, and judgment.

All of us feel at times a loneliness for God. Someone has called it cosmic loneliness. We don’t know what it is. It makes us restless. You see, man was made for God; and without God, He is lonely. But Jesus is knocking at the door of our heart, saying, “I want to come in. Let me in.” He doesn’t push His way through that door. We have to open it and invite Him in; when we do, He comes in to live forever and we are never lonely again. Read more...

The Missing Ingredient to Revival

By Mark Denison

Del Fehsenfeld, Jr., founder of Life Action Ministries, asks this probing question: “If revival in this land depended on your prayers, your faith, and your obedience, would we ever experience revival?” That is an appropriate question for any Christ-follower to confront.

Psalm 80 states God’s intentions for America – and every other place – very clearly. Three times the Psalmist prays, “O God, restore us and cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved” (80:3, 7, 19). Revival is dependent on prayer. But not just any prayer.

The missing ingredient to revival is not prayer. The missing ingredient is fervent prayer.

Samaritan’s Purse Rolls into Houston In Wake of Hurricane Harvey

By Mark Denison

It didn’t take long for Samaritan’s Purse to respond to the first Category 4 hurricane to strike Texas in over 50 years. With flooding unseen in American history, Houston was inundated with over four feet of rain.

“My heart continues to be heavy for the good people of South Texas as they begin to deal with the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “We have positioned Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief trucks and materials to move into the hardest hit areas,” Graham said as the ministry prepared to enter the flood-worn areas.

God Is Moving at Strategic Angel Care

By Mark Denison

One of our partner ministries has just experienced an amazing summer. Under the leadership of John Neese, SAC just completed their summer mission trip to Russia. They saw 200 patients in their Estonia Eye Clinics over four days. In the process, three of the seven orphans they brought to the Latvia Teen Camp went forward to seek a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

In answer to prayer, John’s son Sergey was able to complete all passports, visas, and documents in order to bring the children they wanted to reach through summer camps. Sergey coordinated the logistics flawlessly. God moved mightily, and the entire group enjoyed a great week and a safe return home.

What Holds Back Revival?

By Mark Denison

While the church is growing at a record rate in Africa and Asia, the church, on the whole, has stagnated in America. Why is it that 90 percent of evangelical churches in the United States are either in decline or have levelled off? I see three reasons.

1. We have reduced a move of God to a method.

John Knox prayed, “God, give me Scotland, or I die!” He didn’t pray, “God, give me a method, or I die!” Knox prayed desperately, every day for seven years, before he saw the move of God. He never initiated a program or wrote a book on how to bring revival. That is true of each of the Great Awakenings and any great movement of God. The Holy Spirit must never be reduced to a method.

Seminary in India

By Mark Denison

One of our great ministry partners is Agape Royal, under the leadership of Abraham Thomas. The ministry exists for one underlying purpose. Her stated mission is “reaching the unreached of Asia.” With a focus on India, the ministry has planted hundreds of local churches, and is winning the masses for Christ one person at a time.

But Thomas is not content to make believers. For Agape Royal, it is all about making disciples. To that end, the ministry launched the Logos College of Theology in 2001. Initially, the school met in a rented building and had just eight students. Now, the seminary has grown to over 100 students from 12 different states throughout India. Their campus consists of five completed buildings, each used to train young leaders to reach the next generation.

Logos states emphatically, “Our students are dedicated to the Great Commission, seeking to reach all of India with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Buckner Works!

By Mark Denison

The effectiveness of the ministry of Buckner International is not measured by the thousands of lives they touch, but by the individual lives they touch – thousands of times. Let me highlight just one example.

Ashlee Robinson.

Reeling from a series of failures and the death of her best friend, Ashlee awoke each day in a pit of pain, reliving the hard moments of her life. And then Buckner stepped in – and everything changed.

Georgia Woman Accepts Christ After Watching Graham Vancouver Festival Online

By Mark Denison

On March 5, Chisty Beaumont was on her cellphone, scrolling through her Facebook feed, when something caught her eye: a promo for a Franklin Graham event happening that night.

The Festival of Hope with Franklin Graham was in Vancouver, Canada, nearly 3,000 miles away and clear across the country from Beaumont’s home in Georgia. But as someone raised in Alaska and familiar with western Canada, she was interested to see that the event would be streamed live online.

That night, she watched the whole thing on her phone from her bedroom, and with headphones on, heard music by Michael W. Smith with Ellie Holcomb, and a story about Zacchaeus from Franklin Graham.

Southwestern Students Join Great Evangelistic Event in Phoenix

By Mark Denison

This week’s annual Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix will be preceded by a powerful evangelistic event called “Crossover Phoenix.” The goal is to engage Phoenix with the Gospel through a partnership with Harvest America, led by Greg Laurie.

SBC leaders are praying for more than 5,000 conversions, but for this to happen, more volunteers are still needed.

Count Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary among the biggest supporters of this year’s Crossover event. Southwestern students, many of whom have just returned from evangelistic events in the Republic of Georgia, will maintain a prominent presence throughout the Phoenix area. Among the students’ efforts will be a door-to-door campaign, aimed at inviting residents to a one-night Harvest Crusade, in which Laurie will preach.

The Unexpected Brownsville Revival

By Mark Denison

It happened 20 years ago in an unexpected time and place. It all started at the Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida on Father’s Day, 1995. What followed was five years of revival such as has rarely been seen in American history.

Two years before the outbreak began, the church’s pastor, John Kilpatrick, made revival a condition to his continued service at the church. He preached on revival and taught on revival every Sunday. They prepared for organized revival services for two years. Evangelist Steve Hill was brought in to preach, starting June 18, 1995.

What was intended to be a one-week event spilled over to nightly prayer services for the next five years. Thousands attended every week, Tuesday through Saturday nights.

The results were remarkable. More than 2.5 million people visited the revival services over five years. Nearly 200,000 came to Christ, with 1,000 going on to take courses in ministry and evangelism, so they could take the Gospel message throughout the world.

Hope Bible Study Starting June 6

By Mark Denison

For too many Christians, the summer is a time to take a vacation – from the things that matter most. While we take time off from work, we also take time off from God. Studies show that believers attend church less in the summer, they give less to Christian causes, and they become lax in their personal devotional lives.

The Hope Center, based in Plano, Texas, is here to help. It starts on June 6.

In announcing a weekly Bible Study open to the public, they say, “There are more self-help and spiritual wellness resources than ever before. But statistics continue to report a significant rise in feelings of hopelessness and helplessness in our society. People feel like they have no answers to guide them, no power to fix their problem – no help and no hope.”

Will Graham Celebration Sees 500 Decisions!

By Mark Denison

For over a year, believers from North Florida have joined with those from South Alabama and South Georgia, an area known as the Wiregrass region, to prepare for the Will Graham Celebration event of May 5-7, 2017. On January 12, 450 Christian leaders gathered in Dothan, Alabama, the site of the event, to pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit.

That night, Will said, “Wherever I am around the world, I’ve found that many people struggle with the same things, with matters of the heart.” He challenged the crowd to step up and invite their neighbors and friends to the three-day meeting that was four months away.

In another pre-crusade gathering on April 23, over 1,000 came together to pray. The 1PRAYER event was focused on seeking God on behalf of the lost in the tri-state area. And on May 5, those prayers were answered.

Strategic Angel Care Ministers in Russia

By Mark Denison

Under the leadership of Executive Director John M. Neese, Strategic Angel Care continues to minister to Russian orphans and impact the Kingdom of God like few ministries in the world today. Started in 2002, SAC’s mission is: “Creating environments that build relationships so Christ can be shared with orphans and hurting children.”

SAC fulfills her mission with a comprehensive strategic plan.

First, they involve others who share their vision. This includes speaking to groups and bringing awareness to those sensitive to the plight of orphans, while encouraging Christian former orphans to engage Russian orphans and conduct personal evangelism.

Henderson County Crusade Records 600 Decisions!

By Mark Denison

God is at it again! On the heels of the Houston Bay Area Crusade, evangelist Rick Gage and Go Tell Ministries conducted a stadium Crusade in Henderson County, Texas. Over four days, April 23-26, Rick spoke to over 3,000 area students in school assemblies, then preached nightly in the Athens High School football stadium to huge crowds.

Over 600 children, students, and adults made public decisions for Jesus Christ! Concluding with a near-capacity crowd Wednesday night, the stadium was filled with praise, led by the Go Tell praise team. It was one of the most significant evangelistic events ever held in East Texas.

Athens Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Paul Essary, said, “This was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in Athens!” Attendee George Leonard described the event as “an outpouring of the Spirit of God on East Texas.” He said the key to the success of the stadium crusade was “churches coming together for the Kingdom of God.”

GO TELL Crusade Sees 600 Decisions for Christ!

By Mark Denison

For three nights, the new Challenger Columbia Stadium in Webster, Texas was filled with thousands of men, women, students, and children – all coming to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. Evangelist and founder of GO TELL Ministries, Rick Gage, led a world class team of preachers, worship leaders, and special guests, in bringing the Gospel to the fourth largest city in the United States.

The Houston Bay Area Crusade featured two retired baseball All-Stars who are no strangers to Houston: Andy Pettitte and Lance Berkman. Tony Nolan and Scott Camp ministered, as well. But clearly, it was Jesus Christ who was at the center of every school assembly and crusade event.

The crusade was held April 7-9. Volunteers from 50 area churches contributed their financial resources and time to bring guests, provide counseling, and serve on multiple teams that made the event possible. For two years, the Go Tell team has been planning and praying for this crusade. Their prayers were answered in mighty ways.

Lesson from God's First Prophet

By Mark Denison

At Revival in Our Time, it is our daily prayer that God bring revival to America and to the world. We are blessed to report the mighty movement of God through our partner ministries. When we pray for revival, we often talk about such themes as repentance, prayer, and the Holy Spirit.

Today, let’s consider God’s first prophet. I’m not talking about the prophets you usually think about in Scripture – Isaiah, Jeremiah, Elijah, Elisha, etc. The first prophet mentioned in the Bible was found in Genesis. His name is Abraham.

In the Bible’s first reference to prophecy, it says that Abraham “is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live” (Genesis 20:7).

Buckner International

Our newest ministry partner is Buckner International, a global ministry dedicated to the transformation and restoration of lives around the world. They bring redemption to the most vulnerable of society. Buckner wraps everything she does around three values: being Christ-like, servant spirit, and passion-driven.

Buckner was founded by Dr. Robert Cooke Buckner in 1879. In her early years, Buckner Orphans Home was filled with children left without their parents due to illness and hardship. Her ministry would eventually spread to senior adults, out of a deep compassion for the hopeless and helpless.

Dr. Albert Reyes serves as just the sixth president of Buckner International. Under his gifted leadership, Buckner has continued to spread its influence globally, through a commitment to “transform the lives of vulnerable children, enrich the lives of senior adults, and build strong families through Christ-centered values.”

God’s Abundant Blessing on Solid Rock Global Ministries

By Mark Denison

Steve and Betty Bishop continue to minister to the people of southern Kenya in the name of Jesus. They offer vocational life skills and spiritual nourishment, including discipleship training and Bible classes. For example, the Sowing and Reaping Vocational Training Center (known as The Farm) in Matoso Village, Kenya, continues to train students after 15 years of remarkable blessing and success.

Their students are orphans and vulnerable youth who have no hope of getting an education because of the expense required to attend school. Through a two-year program, students are discipled in their faith as they learn to minister within their cultural context.

The goal of Solid Rock is simple, says Mr. Bishop. “Our mission is to provide a high quality education in vocational skills and Bible knowledge to change the lives of the poor in southwest Kenya and northwest Tanzania.” The vision is becoming reality.

Decision America Tennessee Tour with Franklin Graham Rolls Out in May

By Laura Bailey

Franklin Graham says God has put a calling on his heart.

The evangelist is following the Lord’s lead as he prepares to hold more prayer rallies across the U.S. in 2017, following last year’s successful 50-state Decision America Tour.

Starting in May, Franklin Graham will kick off this year’s tour with four stops in Tennessee. The Decision America Tennessee Tour will take the Gospel from the banks of the Mississippi River to the Great Smoky Mountains. Stops include Chattanooga, Clarksville, Jackson, and Memphis.

In 2016, Franklin Graham traveled to all 50 state capitals, encouraging people to pray, vote, and engage in the political process.

As he shared the Good News of Jesus Christ at each prayer rally, Franklin said he sensed God calling him to reach even more people throughout the United States.

The Key to Survival is Revival

By Dr. Mark Denison

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

This well-known verse states God’s requirements for blessing – humility, prayer, devotion, and repentance. While this promise was originally given to King Solomon regarding the people of Israel, it is certainly applicable to all who will call on the Lord in repentance and faith. This verse stands as a high expression of God’s readiness to hear the prayers of a repentant people.

Let's break it down.

Southwestern Seminary Launches Classes in Federal Prison

By Dr. Mark Denison

One of the largest seminaries in the world has gone where no seminary has gone before – to prison. Offering a fully accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies, the seminary has graduated two classes in its first six years. Graduates commit to being “field ministers” who work in small teams with fellow inmates to minister to other inmates. State lawmakers are hoping these seminarians will help reduce recidivism and violence in the state’s prisons.

Inmates in white uniforms carrying Bibles file into a classroom at the maximum security Darrington Unit near Houston, some with gang tattoos, eager to study Christian theology and the holy scriptures. They access the seminary library online at the prison computer lab, as they work toward the completion of a four-year academic program. Read more...

Can Trump Presidency Fuel a National Revival?

By Dr. Mark Denison

The capacity for a new political leader to usher in national revival has been a subject of debate across generations. With a culture saturated with relativism, the slippery slope toward spiritual and moral collapse is a ship long since sailed. Turning Ship America back to her Captain will be no easier than turning the Titanic away from the iceberg. And we know how that turned out.

But we know God can bring revival. The question is how. Can political change bring a moral and spiritual revolution? Can the new Donald Trump be the old Artaxerxes, a man of little faith, but used by God to do big things?

Think Twice Ministries

"Incredible passion." "High energy." "Amazing story." Those are the words used by church leaders to describe John and Guy Earle, when they have brought them in for crusades, revivals, and other events.

These former NFL linemen share more in common than their faith and ministry - they are identical twins. Raised in New Jersey, they followed similar paths to pro football. Both were All-Americans in college, played in the NFL, and won Grey Cup Championships in the Canadian Football League, playing on the same line with the Baltimore Stallions. John''s career included time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, and St. Louis Rams. Guy played for the Washington Redskins and Houston Oilers.

Jeremy Lanphier, Prayer, and the Great Awakening

By Dr. Mark Denison

Jeremy Lanphier had hoped more would come that day. But at least there were six. So, on September 23, 1857, at lunchtime, he did not moan about the small number who turned out in response to his advertisement. Instead, he knelt down with the others in the rented hall on Fulton Street, New York.

America was in need of prayer. The country was in spiritual, political, and economic decline. Many people were disillusioned with spiritual things because of preachers who had repeatedly predicted the end of the world in the 1840s. Agitation over slavery was breeding political unrest, and civil war seemed near. Financial panic had gripped the nation, banks failed, railroads went bankrupt, factories closed, and unemployment experienced a sharp increase. The Bank of Philadelphia had failed.

Billy Graham - How It All Began

By Dr. Mark Denison

He is the most recognized evangelical leader of the past century. He appeared on the list of the most admired Americans a record 55 years. He preached to 2.2 billion people, with 3.2 million registered decisions for Christ resulting from his crusades and evangelical efforts. His name is William Franklin Graham, Jr. Nearing his 97th birthday, he has just released his final book, Where I Am: Heaven, Eternity, and Our Life Beyond.

It all began in 1949. The Los Angeles Crusade, scheduled for three weeks, started on September 25, and was extended for eight weeks, during which time Graham spoke to 350,000 people.
